The main attraction in Tarkarli apart from the beaches is the famous sea fort of Shivaji - The Sindhudurg fort. The ferry to visit the Sindhudurg fort is available from the Malvan jetty which is just two kms from the Malvan town. MTDC trained guides are available to take you on a guided tour of the Sindhudurg fort.
The Sindhudurg fort built on the Kurte Island on over 44 acers of land in Malvan. The stone inscriptions, bastions and the citadels of Sindhudurg fort would definitely transport you to a different land and time altogether.
The seas near the sindhudurg fort wall rich in coral life is the first site identified for S.C.U.B.A.diving in Malvan. Sc.C.U.B.A diving which is now available in Tarkarli and Sarjekot too is a major attraction of arkarli.
Descendands of Shivaji's era still inhabit this fort and carry forward the traditions of yore to this day. Most of the youngsters have been trained by M.T.D.C to guide the tourists visiting the fort to give infrmation of the fort
Dandi is a fishermen hamlet and doesnot have much to offer as a beach however water sports is organised at Dandi beach in Malvan because of which the sea shore is frequented by a lot of tourists. Tourists are also taken to SCUBA dive site near the walls of the fort from Dandi beach.
The entrance of the fort is at the northeast corner with 45 staircases leading from the inside to the top of the Sindhudurg fort wall. There is a temple of Maruti near the gate and few small temples of Bhavani, Mahadeo, Jarimai and Shivaji built by Rajaram. The fort hasf 42 Burujs and 3 sweet water wells.
Shivaji’s palm prints and footprints are preserved in Sindhudurg Fort on dried lime slabs in a tower. Shivrajeshwar Temple built in the honour of Shivaji is locates close to it on the fort. Shivrajeshwar Temple on Sindhudurg fort is the only temple built in honor of Shivaji maharaj.
