Tarkarli is about 35 kms off the NH 17 from Kudal just before reaching Sindhudurg town. The route to Tarkarli from Mumbai is pretty straight forward as one has to follow the Goa highway for about 400 kms till Kudal. The best way to reach Tarkarli from Pune is via Kolhapur, the best route to reach NH 17 from Kolhapur is via the Gaganbawda ghat.
Tarkarli is a good stop especially between Mumbai and Goa if you are on a long holiday. Its better to stop at Tarkarli on the way back to change your palate and you can also enjoy some snorkeling and S.C.U.B.A Diving in Tarkarli.
If you want to use train as your mode of transport to Tarkarli there is only one train which take the Konkan railway route from Pune (Pune ERS Expresss) which stops at Kankavli very early in the morning (3.30 am)
By road the best route is via Kolhapur. From Kolhapur you may either take Radhanagari route or the Gaganbawda route. If you are planning to visit only Tarkarli its better to take Gaganbawda route considering the road condition.
If you want to take public transport there are two 'Shiv Shahi' buses which ply between Pune and Malvan everyday the ticket cost of which is rs 850. The bus starts from Nigadi and passes through Swargate. (12 hrs traveltime)
Mapusa is hardly 100 kilometers from Tarkarli and will take less that three hours to reach in a taxi. If you are looking for public transport there is a Kadamba interstate bus that starts frm Madgao every day at 9 am. There are numerous private buses which will get you to Kudal and there autos and taxis available that connects to Tarkarli
Unless you are driving down from Bangalore there arent many direct travel options to reach Tarkarli. From Bangalore one will have to first cme to Mapusa and then further connect to Tarkarli. We can arrange a pick up from Mapusa however if you plan to go back the same day hiring a taxi from Goa will be cheaper.
To travel to Tarkarli from Hyderabad one would either have to travel to Mumbai or Goa first and further connect to Tarkarli. Fligh to Dabolim airport and connecting to tarkarli is also a viable option. If you decide to drive down from Hyderabad to Tarkarli it will take about 15 rs to reach Tarkarli from Hyderabad.
To reach Tarkarli from Mumbai by road you can either take the NH 17 which is shorter or you could take the Pune express route which is about 50 kms longer however would take atleast an hour less to reach Tarkari due to the roads. On NH 17 you will find two way traffic all through and narrower roads than the Pune route which has a divider wich seperates the on coming traffic upto Kolhapur.
If you are taking the NH 17 you have the option of taking the 'Sagari marg', although distance is not much different the route affords some beautiful views and you may visit Vijaydurg and Kunkeshwar enroute too!.
