Located just off the main attractions and far more crowded destinations in Malvan, Tondavali is a secluded beach alongside the Kalaval creek, ideal for a long holiday away from everything. Tondavali beach boasts of the cleanest beach in the whole of Malvan. Just under half an hours drive away from Malvan and at about 45 kms from Kankavli, Tondavali beach along with another pristine beach - Achara, is an ideal get away for a beach lover!
The Kalaval creek is a major attraction of Tondavali. The palms on the banks of the river gives Kalaval creek a sembelence to the back waters of Alapusha. Water sports is organized in the Kalaval creek and boating is also very popular here.
The Kavada island looms in the horizon of the sea near Tondavali beach apart from which there are two islands in the Kalaval creek that can be visited by dingys. Kavada island is also a snorkelling site however there are currently no operators here.
Tondavali being a secluded spot is one of the best regions for a dolphin sighting trip into the sea. Schools of dolphins are often visible even from the shores of Tondavali. Boating trips are organized here and early morning is the best time to do it.
Achara beach located about 4kms from Tondavali is a beach with a view to die for with an adjoining hill on which there is a light house - the Achara Lighthouse. Water sports is available at Achara beach too. The well known Rameshwar temple is located close to the Achara beach.
Located about 5 kms away from Malvan town, Sarjekot has lots to offer people visiting the place. Sarjekot beach where water sports is organised is on the other side of the Sarjekot jetty. Sarjekot is a small cove with a rocky stretch on its northern side. Sarjekot jetty is also an ideal angling spot.
Chivla beach is located to the north of sindhudurg fort and is a pretty cove. Scuba diving is organised from Chivla too however the actual dive site is near Sarjekot. People are taken in a boat to Sarjekot dive site from Chivla which hardly is a 10 minute boat ride.
The state government has approved a Rs.-509 crore project to build India's first oceanarium in Todavali, half an hour from Tarkarli. Sea World, which is slated to begin construction in September 2014.
The sea world project will include theme-based restaurants, 3D dome & theatre, an underwater studio for film shooting and a mock Antarctica among several other attractions. The ambitious project however hasnt started yet.
Even as government has scaled down the quantum of land to be acquired for the country’s first sea world project to less than a fourth of its original size of 1390 acres, the locals have refused to give any land towards the project.
